Florence Sarah "Sally' Chamberlin, 82, formerly of Windsor, died Thursday, (May 23, 2002) at Avery Heights. Born in a farm house built by her grandfather on Hudson Street in Hartford, she was the daughter of the late John Hart and Florence Nancy (Simmons) Chamberlin. Raised in West Hartford, Sally was a graduate of University of Connecticut and received her Master Degree from Mid State University. She began her career as a teacher with the Moodus School System, but during World War II served at the Pentagon with the U.S. Army as a cryptographic technician. After the war, Sally took a position with Nestle Company in Switzerland, a place she had lived for a year while studying abroad. Sally enjoyed Switzerland and would share her memories of climbing the Matterhorn. After several years with Nestle, she returned to teaching as a high school foreign language instructor. Her career included a string of assignments at U.S. Air Force bases all over the world that fostered her love for travel. She is survived by two brothers, Parker Chamberlin of Orleans, MA, and Franklin Chamberlin, Sr. of South Chatham, MA; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Harold and John Chamberlin. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 28th, 2 p.m. at South Congregational Church, 277 Main Street, Hartford. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Friends will be received at the church, Tuesday, 1-2 p.m., one hour prior to the service. Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, West Hartford has care of arrangements.
