Born at Tupper Lake on Nov. 27, 1943, a son of Philip and Bernadette Bedore Dattola, he was graduated from Tupper Lake High School in 1961 and received his bachelor of arts degree in English from Niagara University in 1965. He received a magistral master of arts degree in English from the University of Detroit in 1967.

Mr. Dattola had been a professor on the faculty of the University of Hawaii at Honolulu for the past 18 years. He previously taught English and drama at DoD schools at Johnson High School, Japan and in the Phillipines.

The funeral was Thursday at Holy Name Church, with the Rev. Earl Nichols, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Holy Name Cemetery in May 1990.

Contributions may be made to the Tupper Lake Rescue Squad.

Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Philip Dattola, Berkley Avenue, Tupper Lake; three brothers, Daniel, James and Ricky Dattola, all of Tupper Lake; three sisters, Mrs. Ann Manzano, Solvay, Donna Stocum, Tupper Lake, and Mrs. Theresa Goddeau, Lake Placid, and several nieces and nephews.

Elaine Morgan - He was my English teacher and taught at JHS from 1969 to 1973; it was sad to hear of his passing at such a young age (46). Mr. Dattola was from Tupper Lake, New York; from everything I’ve read, his family is very prominent in that area.

The Johnson High alumni will miss Mr. Dattola very much.
