Barbara Margaret Edwards

SPICER - Barbara Margaret Edwards, 90, of Spicer, died Jan. 8 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. She was born on Oct. 27, 1927 in Huron, South Dakota to Theodore and Florence Edwards. Upon receiving her masters degree in French from University of South Dakota, Vermillion, she began her teaching career. After teaching for two years in the United States, Barbara taught for 40 years overseas. She taught Spanish and French in Japan and Germany. Through her teaching career she made lifelong friendships with colleagues and former students. Through phone calls, reunions and a newsletter, "The Honey Bucket," she kept in touch with many of them. Barbara was an avid traveler and she loved exploring new places and cultures. No matter where she traveled she would learn to speak a little of the local language. She took stunning pictures and developed them in her own darkroom. After Barbara retired from teaching, she moved to the Spicer area. She spent many hours researching family genealogy. She was also a lifelong reader and passionate about government and politics. A fervent Democrat, she wrote well informed letters to the editor for the West Central Tribune and the Lakes Area Review. She was a long time member of the Mensa group that meets in Willmar. Barbara loved spending time with her cats, her friends and her family.

Blessed be her memory. Cards or memorials (MN Society for the Blind) can be sent to Craig Edwards, P.O. Box C, New London, MN 56273

The JHS Alumni will miss our teacher Barbara very much.
